What it does
Energy advice tends to jump straight to the expensive answer — new windows, a heat pump, more insulation. This skill deliberately works in the opposite order.
It finds where your energy probably goes. For most homes that's heating and cooling first, then water heating, then appliances. Starting there stops you spending effort on small loads while the big ones run untouched.
It orders the plan free-first. No-cost behaviour changes come before cheap fixes, and cheap fixes come before large purchases. Think thermostat settings, closing off rooms you don't use, and unplugging devices that draw standby power, before draught-proofing or LED bulbs, and long before anything that needs a contractor.
It respects whether you rent or own. Owner-only upgrades aren't recommended to renters. That sounds obvious, and a surprising amount of generic advice ignores it.
It separates what you observed from what's a guess. "The bill doubled in January" is an observation. "It's probably the water heater" is a hypothesis, and the plan labels it that way.
It gives you a way to measure. A simple method for comparing usage before and after, so you can tell whether a change worked before committing to a bigger one.
What it won't do
This is the part worth reading, because it's where the skill is careful. The Taku version is explicit that it does not:
- access your utility or landlord accounts
- inspect equipment, change settings, or diagnose faults
- verify products, tariffs, regulations, rebates, savings, or payback periods
- make purchases or arrange any building work
Actual safety, fit, prices, incentives, and results depend on your home and region, so treat its output as a structured starting point rather than a verdict. And if anything suggests damage, overheating, moisture, or a problem with electrical, gas, combustion, or heating equipment, the skill tells you to stop and bring in your landlord or a qualified professional. That boundary is correct, and it's a good reason to trust the rest of the output.
